Intro to Canyoneering

Are you ready to experience a whole new sense of exploration and adventure? Through the wild, rugged world of canyoneering you will find yourself navigating complex canyon systems, descending staggering cliffs, and wading through cold waterfalls. In this intro course, we'll cover the fundamentals of canyoneering and how you can become a contributing team member as your group descends a route. Topics such as required specialty gear, rappelling techniques, and body positioning, will be extensively covered along with, of course, tons of time on the ropes!

Waterfall Rappel.

Join us for a fun filled adventure combining rappelling and waterfalls. This trip is perfect to beat the summer heat and have some adventure at the same time. All equipment provided, but you'll want to bring a dry change of clothes for afterwards. These trips happen at Upper Creek Falls 15 miles north of Morganton, NC.

This class runs at a minimum of 2 people. If only one person signs up the 2 person rate will be applied so bring a friend.

Canyon Anchor building and Rigging

This course is the first of its kind in WNC and designed to empower you to take on your own objectives. Students will delve deep into the leadership role of descending a canyoneering route and focus on many advanced topics such anchor building off natural features and fixed hardware, rigging for contingency, and various backup systems. The end goal of this course is to impart the skillset you need to tackle adventures all on your own!

Canyoneering Trip FAQs

Canyoneering is exploring canyons using hiking, scrambling, swimming, and rappelling. In Western North Carolina, this includes waterfall rappels and gorge exploration.
No experience needed. These trips are designed for beginners and include full instruction.
Yes—when guided professionally. You are always on managed rope systems with trained guides.
Moderate fitness is enough. Expect a few miles of hiking on uneven terrain.
Quick-dry clothing, closed-toe shoes with grip, water, snacks, and dry clothes. All gear is provided.
Trips are weather-dependent. We reschedule or refund if conditions are unsafe.
