Table Rock — Linville Gorge, NC
Guided Multi-Pitch Climbing at Table Rock
Table Rock stands above Linville Gorge — the deepest gorge east of the Mississippi — and offers some of the most committing, classic multi-pitch trad climbing in North Carolina. This is a destination for climbers ready to step beyond single-pitch sport and into real adventure climbing in a wilderness setting.
About Climbing at Table Rock
Table Rock is the most prominent summit in Linville Gorge Wilderness — a flat-topped quartzite peak with cliffs on multiple sides. The climbing here is predominantly trad, ranging from moderate multi-pitch lines like Skip to my Lou (5.6) and Jim Dandy (5.4) to test pieces like The Open Book (5.11) and other routes throughout the gorge.
What sets Table Rock apart isn't just the climbing — it's the setting. You're in federally designated wilderness with expansive views, no cell service, and the kind of exposure that makes a multi-pitch feel like a true adventure. This is what people mean when they talk about "climbing in the Linville."

FAQ
What experience do I need to climb Table Rock? For multi-pitch trips, you should be comfortable climbing 5.7 outdoors, know how to belay from the top, and be willing to commit to a full day. If you're not there yet, start with us at Looking Glass or Rumbling Bald and we'll build up.
Is Table Rock harder than Looking Glass? The grades are comparable but Table Rock is more committing — bigger approach, longer routes, true wilderness setting, less margin for error. It's the natural next step after climbing comfortably at Looking Glass.
How long is a Table Rock day? Plan for 8–10 hours car-to-car. Multi-pitch climbing in the gorge isn't quick.
Can you teach me to lead trad at Table Rock? Yes — but typically as a follow-up after foundational trad work elsewhere. We'll assess your level and recommend the right starting point.
What's the Linville Crusher program? It's our multi-day immersive Linville program — link to the Linville Crusher page for full details.
Is there cell service? Limited. We file a plan and carry communication, but you should let someone at home know you'll be off-grid for the day.
